If you've ever wondered why our business is
named “TacoBird,” you're not alone.
Our name stems from a personal hobby and a memorable encounter at a McDonald’s in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania.
A story that’s close to our hearts.
Ken and Becky first met in 1992 at a local pet bird club in York, PA. Ken owned a Green-Winged Macaw and two Nanday Conures. Becky had a Blue-and-Gold Macaw named Felix,
an Eleanora Cockatoo, and several
breeding pairs of Cockatiels and Lovebirds.
Although Ken was shy, he found a way to connect with Becky by asking her to bird-sit his conures and beloved macaw, Taco (pictured on the right), while he vacationed in Florida. This simple request sparked a friendship that soon blossomed into romance. The couple married on August 28, 1993.
One afternoon, Becky took Taco to lunch at a nearby McDonald’s. They sat outside so Taco could enjoy one of his favorite treats—French fries! A mother and her young daughter walked by, and the mother remarked,
“Look honey, it’s a Taco bird!”
Becky replied with a smile, “This is a Taco bird!”
That brief exchange led to a surprising discovery because the woman was a friend of Ken’s sister whom Becky had never met before. The two shared a laugh, and the phrase “Taco bird” became a recurring joke and eventually, our email address.
When it came time to launch a business,
the name TacoBird felt like the perfect choice.
After all, without Taco, we might never have met.
In 2003, following the birth of our daughter Kristina, Becky chose to stay home and focus on growing TacoBird™. Over the years, we’ve continued expanding our product offerings
and remain deeply grateful to the clients who have supported us along the way.
Now that Kristina has now nearly finished college, Becky continues to manage operations from home, allowing us to stay flexible and responsive to client needs. We’re available most evenings and weekends and take pride in the personalized service we offer.
